About

Realizing that Hart County Kentucky lacked a shelter and had no coordinated way to care for lost, unwanted, abused or neglected animals, the people of this area came together in 2015 to form Animal Rescue Kare.  Since then, with all of us working together, we’ve had success in our programs of: Spay-Neuter-Rabies (SNR) events for dogs and cats, Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) operations for cats all over the county, and foster/adoption for both the dogs and the cats of our service area.

On March 7, 2022 the county government opened the Hart County Animal Shelter, accepting stray and surrendered dogs but no cats. Since then, ARK and our volunteers have been doing everything possible in order to support the new shelter and to ensure its continued success. With the shelter’s dog foster and adoption program off to a good start and with ARK fully onboard to assist, we have been able to continue helping the cats of Hart County with our TNR (cats only) and our Feline (cats only) Foster programs. We encourage you to volunteer for our TNR and Feline Foster programs and keep reporting the location of stray cat colonies for our records. Our Feline Foster program uses PetFinder to post cats and kittens available for adoption.
